A 17-year-old Cypriot was hospitalised on Monday following an attack at a festival in Sitia, Crete, with police arresting two Albanians in connection with the incident.

The attack took place last Saturday night during a local festival, according to information reported by Greek news outlet Patris.

The teenager had reportedly been dancing the ‘sousta’ with a girl, a traditional Cretan courting dance, said to have provoked a reaction from two Albanian nationals aged 16 and 17.

The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, during which the two allegedly attacked the Cypriot teenager, leaving him injured.

He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, whereupon he was treated and then discharged.

The two minors arrested by police gave conflicting accounts of their involvement.

One admitted to striking the Cypriot teenager, while the other claimed he had intervened in the fight in an attempt to separate those involved.
