Coronavirus: Protestors drive to palace

Demo

Hundreds of demonstrators took part in a protest drive from the GSP stadium to the presidential palace on Sunday afternoon.

The protest was against the coronavirus measures, although those addressing the crowds spoke about other issues including banks and migrants.

After gathering at the GSP, the cars continued in a long line along the main road into Nicosia.

The police were also out in force and there were two unconfirmed arrests. When the two were told they were breaking covid decrees they reportedly started swearing at police officers.

They blocked the street outside the presidential palace, leading protestors to complain they were not allowed to peacefully demonstrate.

According to a decree issued by the minister of health weeks ago, large demonstrations are not allowed.
