Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces a number of different patterns on fabric. It relies on binding, stitching, folding, twisting and compressing cloth for its effects.

The earliest surviving examples of shibori-dyed cloth date back to the mid-8th century, donated to the Tōdai-ji Buddhist temple in Nara in 756 C.E.

In this video, you’ll learn a beautiful and easy Shibori pattern to make for yourself, using paint sticks, string and indigo dye with a cloth of your choice – the one used in the video is a pillow cover.
