Police booked 113 individuals and one business owner in the last 24 hour for violating Covid restrictions.

A police spokesperson told CNA that the force carried out a total of 7,795 checks throughout Cyprus, giving special weight to the implementation of the latest decree by the health ministry according to which access to nature trails is prohibited.

The decree, which has caused an outcry among the public was put in place after photos emerged last Sunday of people crowding into Troodos square. NGOs have argued that people walking on nature trails have nothing do with others going to Troodos to see the snow who crowd into the square.

Under this new decree a total of 508 vehicles and 710 people were checked by police over the past 24 hours.

They refused access to 343 vehicles on their way to Troodos. Ten of these people were booked.
