Bucks for your bangs: why this haircut will cost you $1,000

In this video, we take a pre-Covid trip to the New York City beauty salon helmed by Julien Farel, a French celebrity hairstylist, “haircare innovator” and entrepreneur in the luxury, beauty, and wellness arena.

The mission? To find out what a high-end $1,000 haircut here, entails.

The Julien Farel Restore Salon, Spa and Fitness is located inside Manhattan’s Loews Regency hotel, a regular Upper East Side haunt of New York power brokers, and with a clientele that includes Katie Holmes, Cristina Cuomo and Rafael Nadal.

For ordinary New Yorkers and businesses simply struggling to make ends meet, it might all sound more than a little indulgent. But the wait-list provides a lesson in the economics of moneyed Manhattan… specifically, the apparent consistency in demand among the Park Avenue set for that just-so coif.
