Coronavirus: Limassol bishop tests positive (updated)

Bishop Athanasios of Limassol

Limassol Bishop Athanasios tested on Tuesday positive for coronavirus during the weekly rapid tests given at the bishopric.

The bishop’s PCR test results confirmed he was positive to the virus and he is now in self-isolation.

The bishop, 62, has presented no symptoms. The Limassol bishopric said he was found positive as part of the preventive, standard, weekly tests that were performed on Tuesday.

“Bishop Athanasios has already gone into self-isolation, while his close contacts, clergy and laity serving in the bishopric, have been informed and have been examined, with a negative result,” the bishopric said.

It added that all health protocols were followed while the premises were disinfected.

The bishop’s health is good so far, it said.
