A two-month-old baby that died early on Tuesday in Limassol was found positive to coronavirus.

The infant, that had presented serious respiratory problems at birth, was found unconscious in its bed by its parents early on Tuesday. The baby was rushed to the Limassol general hospital, but doctors were not able to resuscitate it.

According to state broadcaster CyBC, the infant was found positive to coronavirus. Its parents said the baby had no symptoms.

The baby was born in February and had presented respiratory problems and had been hospitalised for 15 days in the Makarios hospital’s intensive care unit.

A post-mortem, to take place within the week, is expected to determine whether the respiratory problems the baby had were linked with to its death and if the coronavirus infection contributed to this.
