Coronavirus: Two deaths, 260 new cases (Updated)

Two deaths from coronavirus and 260 new positive cases were reported on Wednesday.

The deaths were a woman, aged 82, and a man, aged 47. The health ministry no longer announces the vaccination history of the deceased nor whether they had underlying health conditions.

The positive cases were found from 54,816 PCR and rapid tests with a positivity rate of 0.47.

The health ministry said 173 people were in hospital, of whom 56 are in serious condition.

PCR tests accounted for 4,550 of the total 54,816 tests carried out on Wednesday.

The PCR tests identified the following: 94 positives from 579 contact tracing tests, two positives from 1,778 airport tests, 51 from 1,694 tests taken privately and five from 286 hospital tests.

The government’s rapid test screening programme identified 99 positives from 49,524 such checks.

A further nine positives were picked up by 742 rapid tests taken privately.

Notably, Paphos recorded just one case from 4,422 rapid tests – with a positivity rate of 0.02 per cent.

At the other end is Famagusta, which had the highest rate on Wednesday, with 0.36 per cent with fifteen positives from 4,128 tests.

Limassol’s 0.22 per cent resulted from 26 positives (11,734 tests), Larnaca’s 0.22 per cent from 17 (7,858 tests), and finally, Nicosia’s rate is 0.20 per cent from 38 positives (19,317 tests).

No cases were found at the care homes.
