Coronavirus: Two deaths, 311 new cases

Two deaths from Covid-19 and 311 new cases were announced on Monday, out of 53,577 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate 0.58 per cent.

The deaths were one woman, 74, and a man, aged 77. The 77-year-old man died in his home. So far, 501 people have died of Covid-19: 324 men and 177 women with an average age of 76.5 years.

There are 143 people in hospital with the virus, 58 of whom are in serious condition. More than eight in 10 patients with Covid treated in hospital- 83.22 per cent – are not vaccinated, the health ministry said. Twenty post-Covid patients continue to be intubated in serious condition, it added.

Fifteen of the new cases concern contact tracing, while 60 are people who got PCR tests privately. More than half of the new cases – 173 – are people who got rapid tests privately.

Six cases were people who got tested at the Larnaca and Paphos airports while 11 were among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs. One case was an individual referred for testing by their physician.

Another 45 positive cases were found during the rapid testing offered in all districts by the health ministry. Two of these were detected during testing in nursing homes in the Nicosia district. The rest of the cases concern 16 in the Nicosia district out of 5,502 tests, 11 in Limassol (2,975), four each in Larnaca (1,461) and Paphos (1,094) and eight in the Famagusta district (994).

So far 113,588 cases have been recorded.
