Cyprus police booked 19 citizens and five establishment owners in the last 24 hours, for violating the measures aiming to curb the spread of COVID-19.
A police spokesperson told CNA on Sunday, that a total of 3,265 checks were carried out and most citizens were reported for not wearing protective face masks or having a SafePass when visiting public places and establishments. As for the fines on establishments, he said that they concern overcrowding and standing customers.
In Nicosia 1,295 checks were carried out reporting one citizen and one establishment manager. In Limassol the police conducted 296 checks and booked 10 citizens. In Larnaca, police carried out 572 checks and no one was reported.
In Paphos 290 checks were conducted and the police handed out fines to four establishment owners and three citizens. In Famagusta the police carried out 461 checks and booked 5 citizens, while in Morphou they conducted 180 checks without reporting anyone.
The traffic department carried out 136 checks island-wide, while 35 checks were conducted at the ports and airports without reporting anyone.
