A minute with Diego Armando Aparicio Queer Wave festival director

Where do you live?
In Limassol, with my family

What did you have for breakfast?
Yoghurt with walnuts, honey and blueberries

Describe your perfect day
A day of new adventures and not a care in the world

Best book ever read?
Possibly Madame Bovary – it depicts oppression in a way that’s still relevant two centuries later. I think we’re doing something wrong.

Best childhood memory?
My first time playing with snow

What is always in your fridge?
Ketchup. The fridge light. All the stuff I never eat.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
Beach House, non-stop.

What’s your spirit animal?
The snail. It’s peaceful, moves at its own pace, and carries its home with it.

What are you most proud of?
Being in touch with my emotions.

What movie scene has really stayed with you?
The last scene in Great Freedom. Watch it, you’ll see why.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
This guy I like, whom I don’t get to see very often.

If you could time travel when/where would you go?
I’d revisit the house I grew up in. It was torn down in 2007.

What is your greatest fear?
The possibility that love is not enough.

What would you say to your 18-year-old self?
‘You’re in for a treat in 2020.’

Name the one thing that would stop you dating someone

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
I’d sit on a secluded beach and watch the sunset.
