Man arrested after large quantity of cannabis found at his home

A 68-year-old man has been arrested after officers found over 11 kilos of cannabis in his house in Nicosia, police said on Friday.

The man admitted to the offence after he was stopped by drug squad officers around 3.15pm on Thursday.

During questioning, officers asked for his consent to search his house, and the man confessed he was hiding a quantity of illegal drugs there.

Two bags containing ten packages weighing a total of around 11.5 kilos of dry cannabis were found on the premises, police said.

The 68-year-old was arrested for drug possession and possession with the intention of dealing.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old in Limassol was arrested after police found 230 grams of cannabis at his house following a tip-off they received.

The search also brought to light four ecstasy pills, 0.5 grams of methamphetamine and €735 in cash.
