DJ Jesse Neo’s Gemtracks launching in Cyprus

If you are – or aspiring to become – a recording artist, you would know the work and collaboration a song goes through to be recorded and mastered before it is deemed commercially ready. This was one hurdle Australian DJ, singer-songwriter and music producer, Jesse Neo, realised before launching his Gemtracks platform.

Since 2016, recording artists and established music producers, mostly from North America, have been collaborating and exchanging skills on Gemtracks to create radio-quality songs. Artists can purchase original beats (also known as instrumentals) created by top producers, and also get the rights to these beats as well. This means once the beat has been sold, it will instantly be removed from the marketplace and the intellectual copyright would be transferred to the artist.

Not only does this mean the artists don’t have to pay royalties, it also means the artist gets full control of the beat and can do anything they wish with it. On the other hand, the producer can charge higher prices for the beats. In many ways, it is a win-win situation for both parties.

Then with the beat, the artist can continue the creative journey by hiring songwriters, booking recording a studio and even submitting the finished song to curators for promotion.

Now having found success in USA, Gemtracks is looking into the Middle Eastern market and has Cyprus on its radar.

“I can really see Gemtracks becoming a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration,” Jesse Neo told us. “In my ideal world, I would love to see musicians in Cyprus collaborate with Americans. This way, musicians in this country can get the chance to work with big names in Hollywood and also help get their music into that market there as well, and vice versa.”

So far, a producer that has found great use of platform is DJ Gosh Fire, an American-born music producer that was raised in Cyprus.

“At the present moment, it is mostly American artists collaborating with other Americans on the website,” the Australian DJ turned music-tech expert continued. “However, being someone that travels a lot, there is no place I have experienced the most vibrant music and culture than the Middle East. Hence, I am here personally inviting all musicians in Cyprus to try out Gemtracks.”

There is no prerequisite required to become a member. With an account, music producers in Cyprus can list their experiences and skills on their profiles, and artists looking for collaborators will be able to contact them and start a new job.
