A 35-year-old man was arrest on Tuesday on suspicion of in theft from a hotel under construction near Latsi in Paphos. He allegedly had an accomplice who, however, managed to escape.

According to the Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nicolaou, a 43-year-old contractor told police officers at the Polis Chrysochous station that he saw two unidentified men leaving the building’s engine room and fleeing when arriving at work on Tuesday morning.

One of the two, during his attempt to escape, fell to the ground and was immobilised by the employees. Police officers arrived at the scene and identified the 35-year-old, who is a permanent resident of Cyprus, while the second person managed to escape.

Further investigations revealed that the perpetrators allegedly removed five A/C compressors from the building’s roof. Electrical installation cables were also missing.

The 35-year-old was arrested for theft, malicious damage and conspiracy to commit a felony. He was questioned but refused to cooperate with police and did not name his accomplice.
