New art exhibitions nationwide

Just before the year ends, a series of new exhibitions showcase local talent with events all across the country. Paphos, Nicosia and Limassol welcome new exhibitions in December, presenting solo and group work that touch on a variety of themes.

Opening very soon is Iryna Manukovska’s exhibition in her Paphos gallery. On December 2, the Ukrainian-born, Cyprus-based artist will open up her studio on 15 Remnou street for a pop-up exhibition of the artworks created in Cyprus over the last two years. Her work focuses on connecting with inner insecurities – sincerity, innocence, engagement and self-reliance. As such, the ideas behind her paintings touch upon the courage to dare, change, act, and live life.

An art exhibition, artist talk and open studio event will be held on December 2 starting at 6pm with 30 per cent of all sales donated to support mothers with kids in Ukraine in the war-affected regions. Supporting good causes is not unusual for Iryna as in 2021 she co-founded the Paphos Women Artists (PWA) community to promote arts created by women in Cyprus and abroad. Since then, PWA has organised two group exhibitions with huge success in Cyprus.

A few days later, The Edit Gallery in Limassol will travel to Nicosia and present its first offsite pop-up exhibition, titled Contemporary Now in the old town. From December 8 to 18, Contemporary Now will be at 15 Achilleos Liasidou Street.

Fostering a diverse creative environment, the exhibition features an eclectic mix of the gallery’s most sought-after international and Cypriot contemporary artists. By bringing together artists from different origins, backgrounds and mediums, it aims to create a dialogue and promote contemporary art. As such, the exhibition reflects the complex issues that shape a rapidly changing world and sheds light on the new perspectives and visual languages that these artists explore.

Extending beyond the walls of the gallery, the exhibition reflects the gallery’s interest in artistic experimentation outside the ordinary setting. The objective is to allow a broader audience to witness the power and dynamics of contemporary art and offer new ways of experiencing it.

Back in Limassol, another exhibition will open in the same week. Anastasia Mina’s second solo show, I Am Vertical, presented at eins gallery, consists of an installation of large-scale drawings and a series of smaller works. In this new body of work, open from December 9 to January 21, Mina continues investigating notions of memory and erasure, exploring contested personal and collective narratives as well as their manifestation.
