Akamas landowners on Wednesday called on President Nicos Anastasiaades to resolve ongoing ministerial disputes that are getting in the way of finalising the Akamas local development plan.

According to an association of Akamas landowners, disputes between the ministries of interior and agriculture are hindering progress on the Akamas development plan.

The association said Anastasiades, the town planning department, town planning council and environment authorities “need to figure out their differences over the next few days, finalise the Akamas local plan with compensatory measures for affected owners and should be published by the interior minister before the end of Anastasiades’ term in February 2023.”

As a result of the ongoing lack of progress, nature and Akamas will remain without any protection, the communities without any development and landowners without any compensation measures after their property value has gone down to nothing after they fell into protected area zones in the past 33 years, the association concluded.
