Police on Friday arrested a man for possessing an unregistered metal detector following a car chase.

According to police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou, shortly before 1am a crime prevention patrol in Paphos spotted a car without number plates parked at a kiosk on Archbishop Makarios Avenue in Konia.

When approached, the driver sped off in an attempt to evade the police. Police pursued and finally halted the vehicle.

For examinations that followed, it was established that the driver was a 38-year-old man and inside the vehicle a metal detector was found, the possession of which is prohibited without written permission from the antiquities department.

The man was arrested for the violations committed and refused to submit to a drug test. Refusing to submit to a drug test is also an offence and the 38-year-old was detained.
