President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday extended warm wishes to newly elected Archbishop Georgios, wishing him a fruitful stewardship as the two met at the Presidential Palace.

Gifting the president a replica of an icon from the 16th century located at Trypiotis church, Georgios expressed the wish that “Jesus Christ will always be your guiding light”.

Anastasiades thanked the archbishop, reiterating “from the depths of my soul” his warm wishes for a fruitful stewardship. “I have no doubt that it will be completely successful for the good of our country, Hellenism, and Christianity.”

Georgios said that through his new post he is entering a “new phase, that cannot be compared to my previous position as Paphos bishop, with issues that differ both in quality and quantity”.

“We hope that, God willing, I will be able to respond,” he said.
