The parents of a six-week infant found their baby dead when they woke up on Sunday in their Larnaca home, police have said.

The last time they saw the baby alive was when the mother fed him and put him back to sleep around 2.30am on Sunday, Larnaca police spokesman Charis Hadjiyiasemi told CNA.

When the parents woke up later that day, they found the infant unconscious in his cot and rushed him to the accidents and emergency department of the Larnaca general hospital a few minutes after 10am.

The baby was pronounced dead. He did not carry any external injuries.

The exact cause of death will be determined during the autopsy expected to be conducted on Monday.
