President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Saturday that he plans to visit all district self-governance organisations in the coming days. Speaking on the sidelines of an event organised by First Lady Philippa Karsera at the presidential residence in Troodos, Christodoulides emphasised that the regeneration of rural areas is a key priority for the government.

“To achieve this, we need a holistic approach that includes having the necessary data, especially to encourage young couples to return to the countryside,” he said.

In this context, he added, the housing plan was also announced, “clearly strengthened and upgraded,” and he said that this is why the government is placing special emphasis on education and health, “because children and families living in the countryside must have the same opportunities and rights in these two areas, and the third is our businesses, so that they can work.”

“I am particularly pleased because a number of projects have been done in this period and more will be done,” he said.

In addition, he said that in the immediate future “we will start a tour of all the districts, after the implementation of the self-government strategy in the new combinations that exist and I will start these contacts, first by coming to our countryside, to discuss with all the local actors and move forward with even more specific and more announcements to see how we create the conditions to have more people in our countryside.”
