Senior US diplomat Mike Carpenter, advisor to President Joe Biden on European affairs in the National Security Council, described the recent meeting between Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and President Biden at the White House as “excellent”.

Speaking at an event in Washington marking ‘Oxi Day,’ Carpenter highlighted the strengthening of US-Cyprus relations over recent years.

“We expect to expand this positive cooperation in energy, economic, and investment sectors,” he said.

Carpenter added that Biden and Christodoulides discussed critical issues, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. He also expressed appreciation for Cyprus’ role in delivering 8,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

“Our bilateral relations have continued to grow stronger over the past few years,” he said.
