The first day of an indefinite strike in the concrete industry was a success, trade unions SEK, PEO and Deok said on Tuesday.

They said the workers were united and more determined than ever in their demand for employers to honour their commitments and renew the collective agreement in the sector.

In meetings held across Cyprus, the workers stood by their decision to strike, confident that their struggle would have a positive outcome.

Replying to the employers’ reaction, who said the strike showed a lack of respect towards the workers in the construction industry, the trade unions said the workers OEV and Keve were referring to were following developments with “great interest”.

The trade unions said the workers in the construction industry were in solidarity with the concrete workers and were ready to stand by them in any way requested.

SEK, PEO and Deok called on the employers “to see the realities and stop leading things into labour Middle Ages.”
