President of Greek political party Syriza-Progressive Alliance Socrates Famellos will pay an official two-day visit to Cyprus on Monday and Tuesday, he announced on Sunday.

He will be accompanied by vice-president Costas Arvanitis, the party’s foreign affairs chief Rena Dourou and diplomatic advisor Dimitris Papageorgiou.

The party said it is a “symbolic, but also substantial visit” since the newly elected party president will hold meetings with state and political officials, and lay wreaths at both the tomb of Makedonitissa and the imprisoned graves.

He will meet President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday morning followed by a meeting with House president Annita Demetriou.

He will also meet party leaders of Akel, Dipa, Edek, Diko and the Greens in addition to representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community.
