Two compelling local ensembles are about to present an exciting and unconventional programme of crossover music, drawing from different popular musical genres. The Crossover Double concerts by The Cyprus Horn Sound and the Papageorgio String Quartet will take place on December 21 in Paphos and December 22 in Nicosia.
Eight musicians are rehearsing as we speak, gearing up for the concerts which will bring together two remarkable ensembles. The Cyprus Horn Sound (comprised of Kelly Alijani, Catherine Heaver, Annita Skoutella and James Moore) will perform arrangements of music from the greatest movies of all time, including Star Wars, The Pirates of the Caribbean and Psycho, as well as Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and several Christmas favourites, such as White Christmas and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
In turn, the Papageorgio String Quartet, which loves to fuse and juxtapose well-known classical pieces with rock and pop classics, will continue with a fascinating and illuminating listening experience. Their programme will include Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin Vs Johann Sebastian Bach’s Aria in G, Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean Vs Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Nothing Else Matters by Metallica Vs Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
The quartet is made up of the musicians Constantin Papageorgio, Constantinos Anastasiades, Nicolas Papageorgio and Gurhan Nuray who won the Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou award in 2017. The quartet’s aim is to connect to the audience by drawing from diverse musical styles, genres, times and cultures and next week it will unite forces with another exquisite local ensemble for an unmatched evening of music.
