Recent actions by the government of Cyprus regarding “harm the delicate balance and the neutrality policy”, Turkish Defence Minister said on Sunday.
“The recent increased activity on the island of Cyprus following the developments in the Middle East and the weapons activities of the Greek Cypriot administration of southern Cyprus are damaging the delicate balance on the island,” Yasar Guler in an end-of-year review.
He also said the Roadmap for Defence Cooperation recently signed between the US and Cyprus damaged US neutrality towards the island.
According to Guler, “it is also unacceptable” the US will extend the decision to lift the arms embargo on the Republic of Cyprus from October 1, 2024.
The Biden administration decided to keep the embargo lifted for another year in September.
Guler concluded by saying, “the only and definitive solution on the island is the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people.”
