A free Park and Ride bus service will launch in Limassol on Thursday, the transport ministry announced on Tuesday.
Following an agreement with AAA Limassol Stadium, there will be 102 free parking spots available at the Alphamega Stadium in Kolossi, from where members of the public will be able to get a free bus going on a number of different routes.
“This new initiative aims to improve daily commuting and decongest traffic on the streets of western and north-western Limassol, offering more transport options to and from the city centre,” the ministry said.
Parking will be at the P3 site and aims to give people easy access to the local bus service (Emel).
Park and Ride will begin on January 2, initially with the Ypsonas circular routes (23 and 23A) connecting to My Mall and the Old Hospital station.
Through other connecting lines, members of the public will have access to Limassol’s city centre.
“This new agreement is another step towards upgrading public transport, achieving a reduction of traffic congestion in the Limassol district, enhancing connectivity between rural and urban areas, and improving the daily service of citizens with modern transport solutions,” the ministry said.
As of February 1, the new junction in Kolossi will also serve the following routes: Route 33 (west Limassol to Limassol Marina), Route 18 (new hospital and city centre), and the regional routes: route 40 (Omodos, Pachna, Ayios Ambrosios, Kanto, Limassol), Route 70 (Pissouri, Avdimou, Kandamos, Limassol) and Route 71 (Prastio, Avdimou, Limassol).
