The foreign ministry on Friday wished the Polish presidency of the EU council well, saying that it can count on Cyprus’ support.

“We welcome Poland to the helm of the EU for the next six months,” the Cypriot ministry said in its post on X.

“You can count on Cyprus support for a productive and successful Trio Presidency. It’s going to be an exciting six months!” the post added.

Poland kicked off the new presidency of the EU following the wrapping up of Hungary’s controverisal tenure in December.

Poland, Denmark and Cyprus are to share the EU council presidency role on a rotating basis for the next 18 months.

Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna earlier pointed out that the EU strategic agenda for the next five years is a compass for the three presidencies.

The trio’s priorities are, among others, the strengthening of the EU’s role as a global actor and its defence capabilities and maritime security, including a comprehensive response to migration and protection of the EU’s external borders.

Additionally the trio will tackle strengthening economic competitiveness of the bloc, and quality job creation, health sector improvement and accessibility to medicines, green and digital policies and EU energy independence.
