Cyprus has sent €92,000 to Unicef and the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs (Unocha) as humanitarian aid to the people affected by the earthquake in Vanuatu, in December 2024.

The foreign ministry said in a post on X that “Cyprus, has through #CyprusAid, provided €92,000 in total to 🇺🇳 @UNICEF & @UNOCHA as humanitarian assistance, in response to the appeal to support the population affected, including vulnerable children and women, by the December 2024 earthquake in Vanuatu.”

“We stand ready to continue supporting the ones in need and especially countries that belong to #OurCommonwealth family, aiming for a better and stronger future,” it said.

It added that “we thank @UNICEF & @UNOCHA for their valuable work in providing humanitarian and development aid to children worldwide, as well as, tackling humanitarian emergencies across the globe, including in Vanuatu.”

An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit Vanuatu on December 17, 2024, killing 14 and injuring 265. Extensive damage was reported.
