A door-to-door recycling collection programme is to be launched in the borough of Acheritou, following the signing of an agreement by Paralimni and Dherynia mayor Giorgos Nikolettos and recycling company Green Dot.

The agreement will see recycling workers travelling from door to door in the borough of Acheritou every Tuesday from April 8, with Acheritou residents set to be able to deposit recyclable waste outside their homes to be collected.

Plastic waste is to be left in transparent rubbish bags, waste paper is to be left in brown rubbish bags, while glass will be placed in special green bins.

Nikolettos said he was satisfied with the signing of the contract because, given that Acheritou was the last borough in the Paralimni and Dherynia municipality to not have a door-to-door recycling collection programme, “the entire municipality will now be served”.

He also called on households and businesses to participate in the programme.

“In addition to gaining environmental awareness, recycling contributes to a reduction in the weight of mixed waste materials, which will, by extension, contribute to a reduction in the taxes to be paid by residents,” he said.
