One in five Cypriots have connection problems with their mobiles while travelling overseas, a survey released by Communications Commissioner George Michaelides on Tuesday showed.

Based on its results, he will make recommendations to providers to ensure the improvement of the Roaming Like at Home services provided to consumers.

The survey questioned people who travelled to EU countries, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway in the last 12 months, with a total of 1,782 trips.

Most of the participants, did not encounter any connection problems upon arrival in the country of travel, while 17 per cent had a problem that was later resolved either on its own or after contact with a Cyprus provider.

Also, consumers noticed that they had a lower mobile broadband internet access speed compared to when they were in Cyprus.

However, this varies depending on the type of device they own (Android or iPhone.)

Other results showed that participants also had problems sending text messages, the phone was cut off, they weren’t able to access the internet using data and some didn’t have service at all.
