More than 3,000 costumed revelers took part, and around 25,000 spectators lined the streets of Paralimni on Sunday for the grand carnival parade, marking the peak of this year’s Famagusta carnival.

According to a statement from the municipality, the parade began at midday, making its way through central streets with groups of participants showcasing impressive and creative costumes.

Leading the festivities was the king of this year’s carnival, portrayed by actor Alkis Christou as the “King of the Seas” or “AquaKing.” The mayor and municipal council of Paralimni-Deryneia also took part, riding on the “Ship of Unity,” symbolising the cohesion of the newly merged municipalities of Paralimni, Deryneia, Frenaros and Acheritou following local government reforms.

Paralimni-Deryneia Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos expressed his gratitude to the carnival committee, culture committee, municipal council, staff and volunteers for their efforts in organising the event. He also extended special thanks to Carnival King Alkis Christou for his role in the celebrations.

The carnival has become an institution, bringing joy and renewal to both residents and visitors,” he said, reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to continuing its work with “vision and determination.”
