The streets of Limassol filled with colour on Sunday afternoon as the final carnival parade passed through town.

Over 100 organised groups were taking part with a similar number of floats.

Organisers estimated that 35,000 people were taking part.

Floats, led by the Carnival King, ranged from purely colourful, fairy tales and superheroes to political.

The parade along Makarios Ave started at 1pm from the Ayios Nikolas roundabout, finishing at the Polemidia lights.

Ambassadors and other officials were spotted in the crowd with Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis was taking part in the parade.

The curtain of this year’s carnival falls at 9pm with the outdoor carnival dance at the Old Port Square during which a mask competition will take place among much revelry.

Elsewhere, the rain did not stop the people of Agros hosting a carnival parade, while around 3,000 people are estimated to have taken part in the event in Paralimni. Twenty groups, including majorettes, meanwhile took part in a parade in Polis Chrysochous.
