Following the successful implementation of the first nationwide art psychotherapy programme in cultural spaces, the AG Leventis Gallery presents, for the fourth consecutive year, its research and programme application of art psychotherapy for older adults. The value and scientific validity of this research are now institutionally recognised, as the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee (CNBC) has issued a positive opinion in its favour.
The programme is led by trained art psychotherapists Marina Ioannou and Eleni Petridou Bouriti both full members of the Association of Art Therapists and Friends of Cyprus (CARTA) and the European Federation of Art Therapists (EFAT).
Through two assessments and 13 art psychotherapy group sessions at the AG Leventis Gallery, the programme aims to foster social interaction, reduce feelings of loneliness and frustration and enhance mental health and wellbeing.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore and discuss selected paintings from the AG Leventis Gallery Collections and then create their own artworks. These will serve as a means for sharing experiences and emotions, reinforcing a sense of belonging and productivity.
The selection of participants for the group will take place following personal interviews and assessments conducted by the facilitators and social workers at the Municipal Multipurpose Centre of Nicosia.
The programme will run until May 16 at the AG Leventis Gallery and the Municipal Multipurpose Centre of Nicosia.
