A deadline of May 15 has been set for hospital dispensaries to process specialised drug prescriptions not registered in the Gesy online system.
Up until now doctors could issue these prescriptions on paper, but the health insurance organisation (HIO), since November 2024, had pushed for doctors whose patients received approval for the medications through the health ministry, to log them into the Gesy platform.
Despite this, and the take-over of responsibility by the HIO as of January this year, patients continue to present hospital pharmacies with handwritten prescriptions, and their data has not been entered online by their doctors.
The organisation extended the deadline for electronic submission of requests four times, HIO director Athos Tsinontides told Philenews.
He said the last deadline was for April 30 and as of May 15, handwritten prescriptions would be invalid.
“We make a final appeal to doctors whose patients receive specialised treatments by approval, to proceed with registering the prescriptions in the IT system,” so that uninterrupted issuance to patients could be ensured, Tsinontides said.
The final batch of prescriptions approved by the ministry of health are approaching their expiration date, and any necessary renewal, will only be possible through the electronic system.
