The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) has announced that registrations for Robotex MRC Cyprus 2025 will close on May 29.
The major educational robotics event will take place on June 28-29, 2025, at the University of Cyprus Sports Centre.
This year marks the 8th edition of Robotex Cyprus and the 2nd edition of the Minoan RobotSports Competition (MRC), which will be held concurrently.
The event is organised by the CCS in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, the Youth Board of Cyprus, and the IET Cyprus Local Network.
It is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, and has been officially approved by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK).
Robotex MRC Cyprus is open to participants of all ages and education levels, including students from public and private institutions, teachers, professionals, and parents.
The participation fee per team is 50 euros.
Winners of the Robotex challenges will earn the opportunity to represent Cyprus at Robotex International in Tallinn, Estonia, in December 2025, where Cypriot teams have achieved notable success in previous years.
Similarly, the winning teams from the MRC challenges will compete in the MRC international event in Crete.
The event will once again feature popular challenges such as the SUMO robotic battles and Line Following speed races, now enhanced with sport-related contests like archery, shot put, car rally, and the much-anticipated drones challenge.
The drone challenge will involve skilled operators guiding drones through an obstacle-filled course.
Given the high participation rates in these events last year, organisers expect to exceed all previous attendance records in 2025.
Two entirely new challenges will debut this year.
In the new bowling competition, robots will aim to knock down pins with a rolling ball to score points.
The Maze Line Following challenge is a twist on the classic Maze Solving event, requiring robots to follow black boundary lines, avoid dead-ends, and find the correct path to the exit in the shortest possible time.
The CCS continues its effort to encourage more female participation in STEM fields by reintroducing the Girls Fire Fighting challenge.
Girls and women are especially invited to form teams and compete in this category, with the chance to also participate in the Robotex International event.
Primary school students will once again take part in the educational robotics exhibition under the theme “Robots and the world of water”.
This year, in addition to the Engino and Lego platforms, students will also be able to use the Makeblock platform.
Given Cyprus’s ongoing water scarcity, this year’s theme is especially relevant, and the students are expected to propose innovative robotic solutions to address this issue.
For older students at secondary, technical, and university levels, the Open Category invites participants to use any combination of robotic platforms and propose a solution to a problem of their choosing.
This year’s event welcomes the first-time participation of ECOMMBX as the “Powered by” sponsor.
The Bank of Cyprus continues its support as the “Youth Supporter” while XM joins again as the “Tech Partner”.
The competition is also supported by numerous public and private entities, with a large number of volunteers serving as judges, referees, technical controllers, and result-entry administrators.
Private universities have played a long-standing role in supporting the event.
Neapolis University Pafos, European University Cyprus, the University of Nicosia, the University of Limassol, Frederick University, and UCLan Cyprus are once again offering scholarships to eligible lyceum students from the winning teams.
This year also marks the debut support of the newly established American University of Beirut in Paphos.
The event will also showcase the Kypruino UNO+, an enhanced version of the Arduino UNO R3 developed in Cyprus by robo.com.cy and first introduced at last year’s event.
This upgraded board highlights Cyprus’s growing capabilities in technological innovation, combining the global Arduino platform with local expertise.
The Kypruino has already attracted interest from international networks, with ongoing discussions for its wider distribution.
Special discounts on the Kypruino UNO+ will be available exclusively to competition participants.
As Robotex MRC Cyprus continues to grow, the need for additional support increases accordingly.
The CCS invites university students, young professionals, and individuals from all fields to contribute as volunteers, judges, and referees.
Interested parties may contact the organisers by phone at 22460680 or via email at [email protected] and [email protected].
The two-day event is free and open to the public.
Technology enthusiasts, families, and the general public are invited to enjoy an action-packed weekend filled with robotic competitions, exhibitions, live music, dance performances, and interactive events for all ages.
Aspiring roboticists are encouraged to form teams with the guidance of a coach and design robots to compete in over 25 different challenges.Registration is open until Wednesday, May 29, 2025, via the official website at www.robotex.org.cy.
