Paphos received two new bin lorries on Friday as part of the municipality’s plan to modernise its fleet and infrastructure in the cleaning sector.

According to a statement from the municipality, the new trucks are expected to substantially strengthen the Paphos municipality’s environmental and waste management capacities.

The two bin lorries, each with a capacity of 22 cubic metres, are equipped with advanced technologies, including an advanced waste compression system and a liquid waste isolation mechanism.

The Paphos municipality said that these capabilities contribute to more efficient management of waste, less environmental pollution, and improvements in hygiene for both waste collection personnel and residents.

Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos said that the new bin lorries are in line with the municipality’s vision for a “smart,” sustainable, and clean city and reflects its commitment to transitioning towards a green economy

The bin lorries, which cost a total of €649,000 (including VAT), are part of a contract signed on April 22, 2024 between the municipality of Paphos and the contractor company Spyros Coutris & Sons Ltd, which will also be responsible for the five-year maintenance of the vehicles.

Upon receiving the vehicles, Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos said that the new bin lorries are in line with the municipality’s vision for a “smart,” sustainable, and clean city and reflects its commitment to transitioning towards a green economy.

Phedonos added that as a local governmental organisation, Paphos invests in modern infrastructure that promotes public health, environmental responsibility, and quality of life.
