The remand of five suspects arrested in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Victory Osarumen Thompson, found dead in a flat in Limassol on November 9, was renewed for another eight days on Tuesday.

Four women, aged 35, 30 and two 24-year-olds, along with a 31-year-old man, all Nigerian nationals, told the police they had returned from a night out and found the woman in a highly agitated state.

They reportedly attempted to calm her down, when she attacked one of the 24-year-olds.

Police said that, based on information gathered during the interrogation, Thompson was beaten with a broomstick by the 35-year-old.

The broken broomstick was found at the scene, and testimonies indicate the attack lasted for about two hours.

In addition to investigating offences of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder against the five suspects, police said the legal service is expected to examine charges related to maintaining a brothel.

So far, the suspects have been examined by a government psychiatrists and found to be fit to stand trial.

The case investigator said a closed-circuit surveillance recording is currently being reviewed, while police continue collecting telecommunications data and 41 additional statements.

Thompson’s body was found on November 9 after the police were informed, with a subsequent post-mortem examination determining that she died from head and body injuries caused by a blunt object.
