Gesy beneficiaries will be able to use a barcode to collect prescriptions from pharmacies from Friday, removing the need to verbally provide personal details, the health insurance organisation (HIO) said on Tuesday.
The barcode will be issued electronically through the system’s beneficiaries portal and can be displayed on a mobile phone, tablet or similar device.
Pharmacists will scan the code to access and process prescriptions immediately, streamlining the procedure and enhancing privacy for patients.
The new measure is intended to address concerns over the sharing of personal data in pharmacy settings, particularly in the presence of other customers.
An official statement said the change will allow prescriptions to be filled “without requiring any verbal reporting of personal data”, offering a more discreet alternative for users of the system.
The barcode will be accessible under the “available referrals” section of the portal, within the prescriptions category.
Once presented, it will link directly to the patient’s prescription details, reducing administrative steps.
Despite the introduction of the new system, existing options will remain in place.
Beneficiaries who do not wish to use the barcode will still be able to present their identity card at pharmacies instead of stating their details aloud.
