The Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA) is stepping up efforts to strengthen the international outreach of its members, with its newly appointed board placing fresh emphasis on creating tangible growth opportunities in overseas markets.

In that context, CITEA’s president George Malekkos, vice president Antonia Michael and general manager Matina Zisiadou met representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cyprus to explore ways of deepening commercial ties.

The discussion centred on prospects for boosting exports by Cypriot technology companies and, at the same time, on practical ways to support their entry into the Chinese market.

Particular attention was given to the China International Import Expo, an exhibition focused exclusively on imports into China, which was seen as a promising platform for Cypriot companies looking to gain a foothold in the market.

The initiative forms part of CITEA’s broader strategy to help members expand beyond national borders through targeted partnerships and outward-looking action.

More specifically, the association is seeking to strengthen its members’ international footprint, build new commercial bridges and tap high-growth markets.

Malekkos said that, until recently, China had been widely viewed primarily as an export-driven country.

However, he added that “it is also a vast market that values professionalism and innovation, creating significant opportunities for Cypriot technology companies that are in a position to compete and offer specialised solutions.”

He continue saying that the objective is not simply to take part in exhibitions or engage in introductory-level networking, but to develop substantive partnerships capable of delivering concrete results for members.

In that regard, he said there is clear potential for Cypriot expertise and that CITEA intends to pursue it in a structured and strategic way.

“If approached correctly, China can evolve from a ‘distant market’ into a strategic opportunity for our sector,” Malekkos stated.

Finally, the association said it will continue to pursue targeted initiatives and international engagements aimed at turning such efforts into tangible business collaborations for its members.
