Turkish Cypriot opposition political party CTP leader Sila Usar Incirli on Sunday told United Nations undersecretary-general for peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo of the need for a federal solution to the Cyprus problem when the pair met on the sidelines of the Antalya diplomacy forum.
According to the CTP, the pair had discussed “the current status and future of the Cyprus solution process, changing geopolitical balances, and diplomatic efforts” to reach a solution.
“The CTP’s commitment to a permanent and sustainable solution based on a bicommunal, bizonal federation based on political equality in Cyprus was once again emphasised,” it said.
DiCarlo had earlier met Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman on the sidelines of the same forum.
Erhurman’s office described that meeting as “productive”, and said that the pair had discussed confidence-building measures devised between Cyprus’ two sides and “the latest situation regarding the Cyprus problem”.
The meetings come with UN undersecretary-general for peace operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix expected to hold similar meetings with figures from both sides of Cyprus while on the island in the coming days.
