The body of a young man was found on Tuesday in a hard-to-reach area in the Limassol district, police said.

The body was found by the civil defence on a river bank in an area between Sylikou and Ayios Ioannis.

According to the civil defence, the body is that of 26-year-old Adamos Adamou, who had been reported missing on December 31.

The civil defence had been searching for Adamou’s whereabouts since his disappearance and had used drones to help locate him.

State forensic pathologists visited the site where the body was found, while police are combing the area for clues.

Limassol CID head Lefteris Kyriakou said it was still too early to say how the young man had died, with all possibilities under examination. The cause of death will be established by a post-mortem examination, he said.

He said search parties had at around 10am found a shoe near the river bank. A further search led to the discovery of the body.

“The state forensic pathologists have carried out an autopsy of the area. For the time being we cannot say, nor can the exact cause of death be given, and we will await the results of the post-mortem and the tests that will be carried out. We are still at the very initial stages and we cannot rule out anything,” he said.
