Classic joy ride: touring Havana in a Fifties ‘old-timer’

If you head to Cuba, chances are you’ll begin your visit in the country’s eclectic capital, Havana.

The city of Havana was founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and, due to its strategic location, it served as a springboard for the Spanish conquest of the Americas. Today, it is the centre of the Cuban government, and can essentially be described as three cities in one: Old Havana (declared a World Heritage Site in 1982), Vedado and the newer suburban districts.

With its tropical climate, Havana is very explorable on foot, but in this video, tour guide Raul Mendoza will show you the better way to see the city: from the back of a vintage car, nicknamed an ‘old-timer’. So, take a ride in a classic 1950’s American convertible, and cruise past Havana’s famous landmarks and iconic sites.
