Every day is open day at the American Academy Larnaca!

Aa Larnaca Post

The American Academy Larnaca opened its doors more than 113 years ago with a commitment to educate and develop the wonderful young minds of Cyprus.  It continues to honour that commitment, focusing on academic achievement, community spirit and extracurricular activities, the result of which are our high achieving, determined, kind and well-rounded graduates.  The American Academy Larnaca is not just a school, it is a family, that supports and nurtures its students, teaching them skills and creating bonds that will last a lifetime.

The Senior School offers A Levels, as well as a recognised Apolytirion.  Students achieve very highly in both, gaining them access to top universities worldwide.  Last year, over half of all grades were A*-A.  Since 2015, the school has received 164 Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards, 22 for the highest score in Cyprus, 29 for the highest score in Europe and 113 for the highest rating in the world.  The high level of education offers the students the opportunity to attend the best universities in the world, and currently graduates study in top universities in the following countries: Armenia, Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA.

Throughout the pandemic, the pupils have had a full online timetable, studying in school, online or both. Staff have worked hard to ensure the disruption to education has been minimal and students have had support throughout.  Unfortunately, due to the current situation, the American Academy Larnaca has been unable to have an ordinary Open day; instead this year it’s ‘Open day, every day!’ with an online virtual tour on the school’s website.

The tour shows visitors the different parts of the school: Centenary, Weir Hall and Memorial Hall buildings, the Sports Centre and the Junior School.

Clicking on the Centenary building, visitors are invited to watch photos and videos of music classes, science classes and IT classes, as well as ‘Break Time’ where students are seen socialising and having fun in the school yard.

The Senior School boasts eight science laboratories and four computer labs all equipped with the latest technology.  The school also has an impressive music technology club which exposes students to a vast variety of digital software allowing for music mixing and editing.

The state-of-the-art Sports Centre has both indoor and outdoor facilities. Indoors the student can play Futsal, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Table Tennis and visit the gym, while outdoor facilities include Tennis and Futsal courts.

‘Visiting’ Weir Hall, which hosts the school auditorium, includes watching a video of life at the school, while the Memorial Hall is home to art classrooms, displaying some stunning student work, alongside many other teaching rooms.

The Junior School tour guides visitors through the state of the art building. The American Academy Larnaca Junior School is an exciting and challenging learning environment for inquisitive young minds. The tour allows visitors to gain an insight into the vibrant life of the junior school which follows the English national Curriculum and within which every child is taught as an individual with unique skills and talents.

The Junior School is well equipped with a library, specialist Greek Classrooms and an abundance of portal ICT which supports our friendly and family focused school.

As an academically selective school, the Junior School teaches a broad curriculum which includes; Computing, Art, Music and PE. The curriculum also reflects the diverse and culturally rich country in which we live. The language of instruction is English and children also benefit from a daily Greek Lesson. The Junior School offers two Greek pathways. Native speakers follow the MOEC Greek Language Curriculum, whilst non-native speakers follow a bespoke curriculum designed to develop their oral communication in Greek.

Registrations are open now for both the Senior and Junior Schools.
