In this video, physical therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck discuss which muscles must be strengthened to improve our balance.
‘Balance’ describes the ability to maintain an upright position. There are two types of balance, static and dynamic. Static balance is defined as balancing in one place without movement, whereas dynamic balance is defined as balancing with movement such as walking or reaching forward.
Good balance helps decrease the risks associated with falling and fall-related injuries (such as fractures and sprains) that arise with age, while conversely helping to maintain mobility and independence.
