Police have arrested a 21-year-old driver who allegedly ran a red light and hit a motorcyclist late on Tuesday in Limassol.

The accident occurred at the Christaki Kranou traffic lights in Limassol where, according to an eyewitness, the driver jumped a red light and initially hit the car of another driver who had entered the junction with a green light.

As a result of the collision, the car of the 21-year-old jumped the traffic island and entered the opposite lane, colliding with the 31-year-old who was waiting at the traffic lights on his motorbike. Then the motorcyclist hit another parked vehicle, police said.

The 31-year-old was taken by ambulance to Limassol general hospital. His condition is described as serious to critical.

The 21-year old faces charges relating to reckless driving and causing a road collision, running a red light and driving without a driving licence or insurance.

All drivers tested negative for alcohol.
