Limassol district court issued an eight-day detention order for a 64-year-old man accused breaking into a house and stealing goods, including an army issued G3 rifle.

The man was arrested on Monday and raises the total number of persons allegedly involved in the incident to five.

Last week, four men were remanded in custody following the burglary – which took place between August 21 and August 23 – which led to the theft of €1,800 in cash, silverware, cameras, mobile phones, pictures and other items, police said.

Testimonies made against the 64-year-old led the police to a construction site and the suspect was found nearby. Following a search of the premises, the police found the rifle in a container which was used by the 64-year-old, who was also working at the site.
