Police looking into animal abuse after dog attacked

Paralimni police are investigating a case of animal abuse after a man reported his neighbour had beaten his dog, causing a head injury.

Police spokesman Steve Theodoulou said that on Saturday the Paralimni resident reported that his 49-year-old neighbour had attacked his dog. The animal, a nine-year-old English Pointer, suffered head injury as a result.

The dog was taken to a private vet and found to have six bruises on the head. The wounds were stitched and the animal was kept in for monitoring.

According to the police no skull fractures were detected.

The 49-year-old was called to the Paralimni police station, where he made his own statement in relation to the events.

The case is under investigation.
