Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the USA on Tuesday held their first ministerial meeting on climate action, deciding to form a joint technical committee of experts to submit recommendations over a road map on climate change.

The meeting, which was the first in the context of the “3+1” cooperation (Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the USA), was held on the sidelines of the 2nd ministerial meeting of president Anastasiades’ Initiative on Climate Change in the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus News Agency CNA reported.

According to an official press release the “3+1” Ministerial Summit was launched by Cyprus’ agriculture minister Costas Kadis, as Cyprus is the coordinator on the issue on climate action.

Greek Minister for climate crisis and civil protection, Christos Stylianides, Israel’s climate protection minister Tamar Zandber and Mark Kasman, director of international relations in the US environmental protection agency attended the meeting.

They exchanged views on the further cooperation of the participating countries on the issue of climate action and on how to determine a framework for the growth of this collaboration.

According to the press release, the representatives of the four countries decided to utilise the work carried out by the Cyprus’ Initiative on Climate Change and they agreed to set up a joint technical committee of experts to submit recommendations over a road map on climate change.

The “3+1” Environment Ministers will meet again in the coming Autumn to finalise the recommendations on their further collaboration.
