Thinker Maker Space of CYENS, a centre in Nicosia, will host a new exhibition towards the end of the month titled ‘Kaio’, Greek for Burn featuring the work developed by Nemo Nonnenmacher during his three-month residency at the centre.

Within those three months, Nemo has been exploring the materiality of remnants collected from areas that were devastated by wildfires. The work reflects on personal experience through the sense of touch and develops a new tactility through digital tools. Charred bark becomes a sculptural object and is digitalised in a VR Environment and interactive video installation. Through processes of transformation, Kaio draws on the emotional and the implications of remote interconnectivity through new technologies and media.

Nemo is a visual artist based in Europe, and uses photography, sculpture and Virtual Reality to explore the relationship between body and digital space, the connection between ‘physical’ and ‘virtual’. He creates immersive visual worlds, constantly testing and investigating new technologies and soon after his exhibition opens, he will host a workshop titled Enter the Object.

Held at Thinker Maker Space on June 27, the workshop will look at how to use photogrammetry and the options artists have to quickly generate 3D models from 2D footage. While giving an introduction to Software like Metashape and talking about alternatives, the workshop will focus on experimenting with the potential of fast, imprecise and ‘low-fi’ workflows for artistic output, emphasising the errors and artefacts of the tools at hand.

During the process Neno will talk about the possibilities and limitations of such spaces for remote experience and collaboration, focusing on imagining narratives between the different objects generated by the participants, as well as looking at their inherent qualities compared to the physical world.
