Renown award-winning singer Alexia Vassiliou will perform during a special concert at Larnaca’s archaeological museum on June 24 to celebrate its recent reopening after extensive refurbishment.

Called “Kipris”, the concert, which will be free of charge, will begin at 8pm.

Greek artist Joseph Hadjikyriakos will also narrate a series of stories throughout the evening.

“The concert is part of a series of events aimed at celebrating the reopening of Larnaca’s archaeological museum,” the municipality of Larnaca said in a statement released on Friday.

“The name ‘Kipris’ was chosen to honour ancient Greek literature describing our island and also symbolises the universal acceptance of an ancient god with the same name.

“The entire concert will be an inspiring tool for visitors, who we want to get better acquainted with our past in order to better understand the roots of our country,” the statement concluded.

The museum houses a large collection of archaeological finds from the whole district of Larnaca, including the ancient city-kingdom of Kition, and the main Neolithic settlements of Choirokitia and Tenta – Kalavasos.
